The Cowles Center for Dance and the Performing Arts (formerly the Minnesota Shubert Performing Arts and Education Center) is a flagship center for dance in downtown Minneapolis, Minnesota dedicated to providing a performance, rehearsal and administrative home to more than 20 Minnesota arts organizations and educational resources statewide. The center was developed as an incubation project by Artspace Projects, Inc and includes three buildings: the historic Shubert Theatre (renamed the Goodale Theater), the Hennepin Center for the Arts and a connecting three-story atrium. Construction of the center began in the Fall of 2009 and it opened on September 9, 2011.

Integral to the Center’s mission is providing high-quality arts education to students throughout the State of Minnesota. The Cowles Center is committed to linking students and artists in Greater Minnesota and the Twin Cities with Cowles Center artists and arts organizations using Internet-based technology.

The Shubert Theatre building at 516 Hennepin Avenue is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

The Education Program of the Cowles Center began its 8th anniversary year with the 2010-11 school year. Using IP videoconferencing technologies, the Cowles Center brings artists into classrooms throughout Minnesota, creating two-way interactive, real-time teaching environments. The other part of the program includes online "Follow the Creative Process" programs which utilize web-based technologies. The two more recent projects include Backstage Pass: The Business of a Rock Band[3] following symphonic metal bands, Epica and Visions of Atlantis on their North American Tour in September 2007 and Men in Motion: A Dance Journey[4] following the choreographic process with Sean Curran and the Zenon Dance Company.
